An early start and a fresh morning for Troopers at Atherton Town, with a full squad all eager for the double fixture against Atherton Town and Astley & Tyldesley.
First we played ATHERTON TOWN SCORPIONS who started very strong and got an early couple of goals, however once the Troopers had woken up and started getting the ball up the right end of the pitch we looked good. We bombarded their goal with shots, so many I lost count. The ball just didn’t seem to want to go in the net, with most shots going just wide by a few inches and Joe smashed the woodwork a couple of times with some really powerful shots. Finally we manged to put one away with a well placed shot from Archie. Unfortunately we couldn’t build on this with a couple more goals going in for Atherton, on another day we could of had five or six goals but a few just missing and a great performance from their keeper kept it at just the one.
2nd game we played a very physical Astley & Tyldesley team but it was great to see Jack and Charlie not backing down from the bigger players and putting in some really good tackles and having the confidence to turn on the ball and look for a pass. Oscar started in goal again and pulled off some great saves, one with his face meaning he had to have a couple of minutes off the pitch to find his bearings, giving Charlie a go. A&T then got a freekick in front of goal and managed to smash a rebound in from close range with Charlie not able having time to do anything with it. Again Troopers didn’t give up and some strong runs from Joe and some long balls from Archie got us a couple of chances, one of which landed to Freddie who coolly tucked it in on the turn to bring us level. After the equaliser A&T came back hard but some brilliant positioning from Elsa at the back meant she was always in the right place to sweep up any long balls and keep out any chances for the rest of the game that finished a draw.
Well done everyone 👏
Avengers get of the Mark with a well deserved 1st win of the season – Our 2nd home match saw the local rivals Atherton Coll’s Aces visit Gilded Park and boy was it a cracker. The Avengers came away with there 1st 3 points of the campaign.
After a good solid start from the team, Sam smashed the ball against the cross bar, a goal mouth scramble that finally fell to J to put the ball in the back of the net ⚽️ on the 3rd minute, The Avengers were in the mood and it wasn’t long before the 2nd was struck home, a rocket of a shot from just inside the box from Tom ⚽️ on the 5th minute rippled the netting to double the Avengers lead. The game was end to end with both keepers being called on to make some great saves the Avengers played well controlling the game in the middle of the park and came in at half time 2-0 up.
The 2nd half started as the 1st finished with some great football played from both teams, but legs started to get tired and the opposition pushed the home team back but the defensive line of Luke, Freddie and Leo held strong and soaked up the pressure and managed to not only clear our lines but find team mates who did what the Avengers do well and hit the opposition on the break. A few substitutions and the energy levels were back up and it was Sam’s pace up front that started to worry Coll’s who had no option but to bring him down on a number of occasions. The free kicks were all well struck well and It was only down to some great saves that stopped the Avengers from increasing there lead. Both teams went toe to toe right up to the last whistle but was was the Leigh teams day with the game finishing 2-0
Well done team very proud of you all. Some great individual performances today but most of all a excellent team performance. The machine worked well with all the cogs doing there jobs which was great to see 👏👏👏👏👏P.O.M goes to Leo 🏅for his great covering play, last ditch tackles and some wonderful clearances that turned defence into attach to help the team stay calm, positive and keep on top of the game. Well done young man keep it up 👏👏👏👏
Goal scorers – J ⚽️, Tom ⚽️
Conceding a goal from the oppositions first attack made the Ninjas lose their confidence a little. First 10 minutes was hard for them but as they started to get into the game, they conceded another.
From the centre kick they were much better chasing hard and pressuring the opposition, lots of shots that went slightly wide or saved by the keeper. Ninjas finished the first half the better team.
Second half started and the Ninjas were chasing the game again and a slight loss of concentration resulted in conceding another goal. 28mins into the match and 3-0 down.
The Ninjas then started playing some great football and Oliver managed to get a goal with some fantastic passing from Sam W and Emily to set him up.
The game had definitely turned better for the ninjas playing as a team which forced the opposition to give a penalty away. Great penalty from Jacob under pressure to make it 2-3. They continued to play some good passing football and forcing their keeper into more saves. The comeback was on the cards.
Last ten minutes were difficult for the Ninjas, losing their sharpness with a few playing in new positions. I think their legs just went and ended up conceding another two goals.
Playing a team who have stepped down an ability level I thought the game was really even and the Ninjas never looked out of their depth.
Well done to Oliver and Jacob for their goals.
Fantastic second half performance in defence from Jacob to get player of the match making some critical stops and good clever distribution when playing out from the back.
Walkden Whites turn to visit Round Ash Park this morning. Despite a dominant performance in the first half we found ourselves to be two goals down at the half time break. It seemed like it was just going to be one of those days. We were creating lots of chances but struggled to beat the woodwork and their goalkeeper. I told the players to be patient in the second half as I knew we would create plenty more chances. I could feel that the players felt this too. It was great to hear the players cheer each other on as we continued to create chance after chance. With only a few minutes on the clock after half time, Jacob ⚽️ found a way through, and this was followed up with goals from Charlie ⚽️, Laken ⚽️⚽️ Oliver ⚽️ and Isaac ⚽️. Isaac thoroughly deserved his goal today working hard for the team both without (pressing) and with (moving into space) the ball. For this fantastic effort Isaac was this weeks player of the match. Tommy was impressive with his dribbling skills today and Laken with his strength and determination. Ellie played the defensive midfield position really well again and is looking stronger week by week. The partnership between Ellie and Alexander worked well. Alexander was amazing in defence and showed some fantastic skill breaking forward and almost adding to our goal tally. Luca made some important stops and distributed the ball well mixing it up between short and long ball passes. Charlie bossed the midfield and was unfortunate not to score a couple more. Jacob worked really hard to get the ball forward quickly to his team mates. Well done Spartans!!! More of the same next Saturday!
Great game of football today Predators against FC BRIDGEWATER. Really proud of how you controlled and dominated the game today. Some great passes from the back and then the midfield creating some amazing passing to the forwards. Some of the best football I have seen the Predators play. A huge improvement from last week 😁. Special mention for our goalkeeper Alfie who was a brick wall in between the sticks. Some incredibly brave saves today, wonderful to see. Well played to our player of the match Bob, really dominated midfield today, never stopped running, and a lovely finish on the penalty to top off a great performance. Every predator played their socks off today, give yourselves a pat on the back, I’m sure all the spectators will agree, fantastic game of football. Goal scorers today Louie⚽️ Bob⚽️ Mac⚽️. Well done Predators, let’s see the same again next weekend ⚽️🖤🧡⚽️🖤🧡
Great stuff today titans, edge of your seat stuff!! We played fantastic together and put a lot of pressure on a very capable team. Bob was a massive asset, but that aside there were no arguments and we looked solid as a team. Further Work is needed at the back but that’s expected for this age 👍. MOTM was Declan and well deserved; Solid as a rock for the whole game and switched on 👊🏼Well done Declan 👌🏼 Rest of them were spot on, me and Craig were more than happy with today’s performance. Micheal made me laugh, came of and said “they’re dirty these men”, I reminded him that I watch him chuck kids around for fun at rugby every week 😂😂
Well done again Titans 👊🏼👊🏼
Two great games at Adlington this morning, well done Knights.
*1st Game* Atherton Town Panthers
An early start and the Sun was only just waking up but the Knights were more than ready for this game. After a close 5 mins of end to end action in the first half, Knights went into 2nd gear and Oliver bagged ⚽⚽⚽⚽ quick goals. 2nd half Panthers played with 6 which evened things up and the Knights were more contained. Harry was difficult to contain though and got ⚽⚽ goals in this half. Knights bossed this game, kept a clean sheet, excellent defending, maintained their shape, passed the ball around and were very dangerous on the attack.
*2nd Game* Adlington Eagles
We’ve played the Eagles a few times and each one has been a close nail-biting game. Today was more of the same with some good play from both teams. Knights made a good start in the first half, Austin scoring ⚽ from a defensive lapse by the Eagles. 2nd half was close again, Eagles getting one back as the Knights were tiring. The last few moments were a bit tense, Austin saved the day and managed to scramble a late attack from the Eagles. A draw was a fair result, it could’ve gone either way.
1st game Vs Atherton Town Bears
Vikings first game of the day started off very quiet with a back line of Jacob and Daniel keeping the visitors at bay and no team really threatening; 5 mins in however, Leigh’s new signing Charlie made his debut coming on to a thunderous applause from his fan club on the sideline 👏🏻 from this point Leigh seemed to wake up and it was a much more attacking game, both Maverick and Jacob making charging runs. Slightly against the run of play, the Bears slotted home from a good counter attack. Half time saw a change in keeper for Leigh and Atherton, seeming to transform themselves into Barcelona, peppered the goal and didn’t really stop the net from rippling. Vikings heads did not drop and they continued making solid tackles and finding space whenever possible.
2nd game Vs FC Bridgewater Sharks 🦈
Before the game coach Alex put emphasis on defensive play and keeping hold of the ball. The Vikings took this and absolutely blew the fans away! Sharks, having eaten the Bears for breakfast, still looked hungry smashing one in within 30 seconds! But from that point on Vikings made sure they would earn the victory. Daniel and Spencer (now the highest paid player at the club thanks to his dad offering a handsome reward system) was solid at the back making some great tackles, keeping hold of the ball and passing out from the back. This gave the rest of the team the confidence they needed, particularly for Charlie and Adam, who both followed suit with some amazing interceptions and passes. Maverick was somehow kept from scoring by a good defence and some great saves both from open play and one top bins free kick.
However the talking point amongst the supporters was the young goalkeeper Jacob, who I have been informed is now England’s number 4, saving three spectacular shots, one after another, and including a “Gordon Banks-esk” shot stop! His contribution was excellent and communication was the key to a fantastic Vikings display.
Overall, despite unfavourable results, there have been significant improvements from all the players. They seem to be more of a “Team” and there are definitely moments of absolute quality.
